Fern Hill, for chorus and piano (poem by Dylan Thomas) was composed in 1983, and revised in 2007. This SATB setting features several opportunities for soloists from within the chorus, and the piano provides the colorful and pastoral landscape that the poet paints in his tribute to childhood.
Composed in 1984, Marumba for two pianos, features one actual Puerto Rican folk melody (near the end) with several newly-created melodies surrounding it. The work is light-hearted but builds to a dramatic cadenza before returning to the carefree opening and was created with the Whitney-Alvarado Duo?s love for flashy, Carribean dance music in mind.
